Where it started
Every staircase Phil takes on starts out like this one: worn down, painted over, its best years hidden under decades of wear. That's where he started too, over thirty years ago, learning the trade hands-on, one imperfect job at a time, under a name that was just his own, Phil's Floors.
The work in between
Nobody sees this part: the stripped-down middle, the patience it takes to get a job back to something honest before it can look good again. That's most of a career, really. Thirty years of jobs like this one, built job by job, referral by referral, on nothing but the work itself.
Today
Thirty-plus years in, the name on the license is changing, but not what it stands for. Heartwood is what's left at the center of a tree once everything decorative falls away: the strongest part, the part that holds everything up. It felt like the right word for a business built the same way.
He puts his heart into everything he does. It's not a slogan. It's just how he's always worked. Heartwood Floors is simply the name catching up to it.
